Amma or Mommy?

I noticed something funny today - Pattu calls me Amma when she talks in Tamil and Mommy when she talks in English! She thinks everything has to be translated?

Should check if it is happening with Appa, Paati and Thaatha as well...

Its sweet. Your post reminds me of something Adi said to me. He calls me Amma but all the kids in his class call their moms 'Mama' or 'Mummy' so he tried calling me 'Mama' and I had an interesting conversation with him where I told him how happy I feel to hear him call me 'Amma' though it means the same as 'Mamma.'

Sweet post.

Monica - :) yeah, their perspective is always interesting

Swapna - I know what you mean. However here, I feel that she is just translating... maybe she'll get over it once she understands ...

Hi Uma...
Came across your blog for the first time today and chanced upon this post. My 2.5 year old too does the same (especially after he joined play school). Says 'Amma inga vaa' and 'Mummy..sit doen'! Nice blog and a very sweet daughter, by the way!
Regards
Hema
